The Colin family have been farmers and winemakers in Champagne for centuries. Today Romain and Richard, together with Richards wife Delphine, run the family estate Champagne Colin. The estate is situated in the village of Vertus, in the Côte des Blancs. They are a “vigneron independent”, which means they are an independent producer of Champagne. They work their own vineyards, use their own grapes, make their own wine and sell their own wine. Tradition and craft that passes from generation to generation.

Colin has vineyards in five villages, Grand Cru Cramant and Oiry, Premier Cru Vertus and Bergères-les-Vertus and Sézanne. All owned by the family. Some have been in the family for over 200 years, like the vineyards Les Prôles (1804) and La Croix Saint-Ladre (1816).

Originating from the Côte des Blancs, where Chardonnay is the king, most of the wines from Colin are Blanc de Blancs. But they do also have some Pinot Noir in Vertus, which was the main grape in the area before the phylloxera. The Pinot Noir is used for their two rosé wines, the Castille Rosé and the Chemin Des Roses.

For most of the wines Colin uses both oak and stainless steel for fermentation and ageing. And as a general rule for the non vintage wines, they will use arround 60 % of the latest vintage and 40 % reserve perpetual, which is significant. The vintage wines are made with no malolactic fermentation, long lees ageing and low levels of dosage.

Certifications: Vigneron Independant (independent producer) and Haute Valeur Enviromental (sustainable production).
